Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CivAlign.org (the "Site") or any associated prototype, tool, or service operated by CivAlign (collectively, the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Platform.

CivAlign is operated as a California sole proprietorship. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and CivAlign.

2. Informational Purpose Only

The Platform is provided solely for informational and civic research purposes. All content, analysis, alignment scores, rankings, and other outputs generated by the Platform are derived from publicly available legislative and governmental records and user-defined priority inputs.

The Platform is not a substitute for independent civic, legal, political, or professional research or advice. Users are encouraged to consult primary sources and conduct their own independent analysis.

Nothing on this Platform constitutes a recommendation, endorsement, or directive to vote for or against any candidate, party, ballot measure, or political position.

3. No Political Affiliation, Endorsement, or Coordination

CivAlign is non-partisan. CivAlign does not:

• Endorse or oppose any candidate for public office
• Endorse or oppose any political party
• Coordinate with any political campaign, party organization, political action committee, or candidate
• Make political contributions of any kind

Alignment outputs produced by the Platform reflect user-defined priority weights applied to public record data. They do not represent the political views or recommendations of CivAlign or its operators.

4. No Warranties; Platform Provided "As Is"

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CIVALIGN DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

CivAlign does not warrant that:

• The Platform will be available at any particular time or without interruption
• Any outputs, scores, rankings, or analyses will be accurate, complete, or current
• The Platform is free from errors, bugs, or security vulnerabilities

The Platform is in active early-stage development. Outputs and functionality will change. Use of the Platform is at your own risk.

5. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CIVALIGN, ITS OPERATORS, AND CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE PLATFORM, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

In no event shall CivAlign's total liability to you for all claims exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100.00).

6. Intellectual Property

CivAlign™ is a trademark. All original content, methodology documentation, platform architecture, interface design, and associated materials are the intellectual property of CivAlign and its operators.

You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from Platform content without express written permission. For details, see the Intellectual Property Notice.

7. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to access, scrape, or extract data from the Platform through automated means without authorization
• Misrepresent Platform outputs, including presenting alignment scores as endorsements
• Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's infrastructure
• Use the Platform in connection with any political campaign or electioneering communication

8. Contributions

Financial contributions to CivAlign are voluntary and support early-stage infrastructure development. Contributions are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. CivAlign currently operates as a California sole proprietorship. See the Organizational Transparency Statement for current organizational status.

9. Third-Party Links

The Platform may contain links to third-party sites, including the operational prototype hosted on external infrastructure. CivAlign does not control or endorse third-party content and assumes no responsibility for third-party materials.

10. Changes to These Terms

CivAlign reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted to this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
