Trademark
CivAlign™ is a trademark claimed by Kristopher Kenefsky, operating under the CivAlign name as a California sole proprietorship. The CivAlign name and mark are used in connection with civic accountability software, platforms, and related services.
Use of the CivAlign name, mark, or any confusingly similar designation in connection with competitive products, political communications, or any commercial purpose requires express written authorization from CivAlign.
Copyrighted Materials
The following materials are original works protected by applicable copyright law:
- All original written content published on CivAlign.org
- The CivAlign platform interface design and layout
- The CivAlign methodology documentation and explanatory materials
- All original code comprising the CivAlign website (where not covered by open-source licenses)
- The CivAlign pitch deck and associated investor materials
- Any other original creative works produced by CivAlign

Proprietary Methodology
The CivAlign priority weighting methodology, alignment scoring framework, Accountability Stack architecture, and associated analytical approaches represent proprietary intellectual development. While methodology documentation may be made publicly available for transparency purposes, the underlying system design, model logic, and implementation constitute trade secrets and proprietary property of CivAlign.
Public Record Data
CivAlign's platform processes and presents publicly available governmental and legislative data. Such underlying public record data is not claimed as CivAlign intellectual property. However, the selection, organization, presentation, analysis, and scoring of such data as implemented within the CivAlign Platform constitute original intellectual work protected by copyright and other applicable law.
Open Source Components
The CivAlign website and Platform may incorporate open-source software components under their respective licenses. Use of such components is in compliance with applicable open-source license terms. Where open-source licenses require attribution, that attribution is incorporated into the relevant code.
Third-party libraries used include: Font Awesome (SIL Open Font License / CC BY 4.0), Google Fonts (SIL Open Font License), and other components as applicable. These materials are the property of their respective owners.
Permitted Use
You may:
- Access and use the Platform for personal, non-commercial civic research purposes consistent with the Terms of Use
- Share links to CivAlign.org for informational purposes
- Quote brief excerpts of CivAlign content for commentary, criticism, or educational use, provided attribution is included
Prohibited Uses
You may not, without express written permission:
- Reproduce, republish, or distribute substantial portions of CivAlign website content
- Create derivative works based on CivAlign's original methodology or platform design
- Use the CivAlign name or mark in any political communication, advertisement, or campaign material
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the Platform's proprietary methodology
- Scrape or systematically extract Platform outputs for commercial or competitive use
- Represent Platform outputs as your own analysis without attribution
