Privacy Policy
1. Overview
CivAlign is committed to handling any personal information collected through CivAlign.org (the "Site") with transparency and minimal collection practices. This Privacy Policy describes what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that information.
CivAlign currently operates as a California sole proprietorship. This policy reflects our current data practices during the early infrastructure development phase of the Platform.
2. Information We Collect
CivAlign collects minimal personal information. The following categories apply:
Email Address (Voluntary)
If you voluntarily submit your email address through the Site's subscription form, we collect that address solely to send infrastructure development updates and launch notifications. Email submission is entirely voluntary. We do not collect email addresses through any other means on this Site at this time.
Platform Usage Data (Prototype)
The operational prototype hosted at civalign.replit.app is subject to its own hosting provider's data handling practices. Priority weighting inputs you enter into the prototype may be processed to generate alignment outputs. We do not intentionally collect or store personally identifiable information from prototype usage in persistent databases at this time.
Automatically Collected Data
Like most websites, the Site's hosting infrastructure may automatically collect standard server log data, including IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, and access timestamps. This data is used for security monitoring and infrastructure diagnostics only.
3. How We Use Information
Information collected by CivAlign is used exclusively for:
- Sending infrastructure development updates and launch notifications (email subscribers only)
- Security monitoring and platform diagnostics
- Improving platform functionality and user experience
We do not use collected information for political targeting, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to CivAlign infrastructure and operations.
4. Information We Do Not Collect or Share
CivAlign does not:
- Sell personal information to any third party
- Share email addresses with political campaigns, party organizations, or political advertisers
- Use collected data for electoral targeting or political communications
- Collect payment card information directly (payment processing, when implemented, will be handled by Stripe under their own privacy practices)
- Build individual political profiles from user data
5. Email Communications
If you have subscribed to email updates, you will receive only CivAlign infrastructure and development communications. You may unsubscribe from these communications at any time by replying to any update email with "unsubscribe" or by contacting us at contact@civalign.org.
We will not send political content, candidate communications, or campaign-related material to subscribers under any circumstances.
6. Third-Party Services
The Site and Platform may utilize the following third-party infrastructure, each subject to their own privacy practices:
- Replit — Prototype hosting
- Stripe — Payment processing (when implemented)
- Google Fonts / FontAwesome (CDN) — Typography and icon resources
CivAlign is not responsible for the data practices of third-party services. Users should consult the privacy policies of those services directly.
7. Data Retention
Email addresses collected for update subscriptions are retained until you request removal. Server log data is retained in accordance with standard hosting provider practices. As the Platform matures, a formal data retention schedule will be published.
8. California Privacy Rights
California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other applicable California law regarding the collection and use of personal information. To exercise any applicable rights, contact us at contact@civalign.org. Given the minimal data collection practices described here, most CCPA rights requests can be fulfilled promptly.
9. Security
CivAlign implements reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect any personal information collected. However, no internet transmission or data storage system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of any information transmitted to or stored by the Platform.
10. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has submitted personal information, we will take steps to remove that information promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as the Platform develops. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Platform after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact
Privacy questions or requests may be directed to: contact@civalign.org
Summary: CivAlign collects only what is necessary — primarily voluntary email addresses for infrastructure updates. We do not sell data, share with political campaigns, or use collected data for political purposes. The platform is in early development, and data practices will evolve with formal documentation as infrastructure matures.
